DIVERSE COALITION ALIGNS BEHIND HENRY STERN

With recent endorsements from groups representing labor, the environment, young voters, and civil rights, Henry Stern is putting together a strong and diverse coalition in the race to succeed Senator Pavley in Senate District 27

Los Angeles – Henry Stern (Canoga Park), an educator and senior policy advisor to Senator Fran Pavley, who terms out this year, kicked off his campaign to succeed Pavley with her support. Stern’s campaign continues to gain momentum as the June primary nears. Stern has grown his coalition, recently winning endorsements from a variety of influential organizations, including the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, Equality California, the California League of Conservation Voters, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, the Tri-Counties Central Labor Council, the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, and the Ventura County Professional Firefighters’ Association.

“Henry has earned the endorsement from the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO because he supports and will fight for issues that matter to Los Angeles today, such as affordable housing, good jobs, access to reliable transportation, and a fair wage,” said Rusty Hicks, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the L.A. County Federation of Labor.

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and Tri-Counties Central Labor Council represent over 600,000 and 70,000 working men and women, respectively.

“Stern’s commitment to safer neighborhoods, schools that offer quality education and a supportive environment to all students and a greener, sustainable California will benefit the LGBT community together with all Californians,” said Equality California President Rick Zbur. “Equality California is endorsing Henry because we believe that his experience in Sacramento, his policy expertise and his commitment to social justice for the LGBT community, together with all the communities of which LGBT people are a part, will make him a strong ally in the California Senate.”Henry Stern Endorsers logos

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of a growing and passionate coalition of distinguished supporters,” said Stern. “We are building an amazing coalition including union members, environmental leaders, public safety officers, LGBT civil rights advocates, and young activists, that are all committed to a strong progressive vision for California.”

The California League of Conservation Voters has also endorsed Stern. “With his extensive background in environmental policy and his willingness to take on the tough fights, Henry Stern stands ready to lead the next generation of California’s environmental leaders,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the CLCV. “He is an environmental champion who will prioritize California’s transition away from polluting fossil fuels and towards clean, renewable energy that not only creates green jobs, but will make it possible for all our communities to enjoy a better quality of life in the Golden State.”

Announcing their endorsement, the Los Angeles County Young Democrats 3rd District Regional Board Representative, Nick Melvoin, said that “Supporting Henry was not a tough call for our members. His passion for defending the environment, fighting for education, and progressive activism makes him a candidate who can actually inspire young Democrats to get involved in the political process. Henry’s experience and commitment prove that he’s the only candidate who can carry on Senator Pavley’s legacy.”

THE ASSOCIATION FOR LOS ANGELES DEPUTY SHERIFFS
JOINS BROAD COALITION ENDORSING HENRY STERN FOR SENATE

Today, the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) announced its endorsement of Henry Stern for State Senate, District 27. ALADS is the largest association of deputy sheriffs and district attorney investigators (DAIs) in the country, currently representing more than 7,400 sworn law enforcement officers.

ALADS joins a long list of leaders and organizations supporting Stern, including current State Senator Fran Pavley, the California Nurses Association, California League of Conservation Voters, Teamsters Joint Council 42 — and three Congressmembers who served parts of this district with distinction and most recently endorsed Henry: current Congressmember Ted Lieu, and former Congressmembers Henry Waxman and Anthony Beilenson.

“I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs,” said Stern. “Every day these brave men and women protect our communities by providing vital frontline public safety services. I am humbled that I’ve received their vote of confidence and I am committed to ensuring that our local law enforcement agencies and first responders have the resources they need to keep our neighborhoods safe.”

“ALADS is proud to support Henry Stern for State Senate, District 27. He has demonstrated his dedication to public safety services and to the law enforcement professionals who provide vital patrol, custody, and special assignment services,” commented George Hofstetter, ALADS president. “We are confident that Henry Stern will be a strong champion for law enforcement and for safer neighborhoods.”

Stern currently serves as Senior Policy Advisor to California State Senator Fran Pavley and teaches environmental law and policy at the UCLA School of Law. A sixth-generation Californian and native of the 27th District, he has helped Senator Pavley pass policies to improve the quality of life and economic sustainability of the 27th District and California. Prior to serving the 27th Senate District, he helped businesses construct clean energy projects, taught civics, investigated juvenile crime, and co-founded a technology incubator to help create California jobs.

ALADS members serve throughout the L.A. County portion of the 27th Senate District, including the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Malibu, Hidden Hills, unincorporated areas, as well as at all nine of the Los Angeles Community College campuses and on local and regional transit systems, including Metrolink.

California League of Conservation Voters Endorses Henry Stern for 27th State Senate

The California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) announced today its endorsement of Henry Stern for State Senate, District 27.

“I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the California League of Conservation Voters,” said Stern. “Regardless of political stripe, the citizens of the 27th love the ocean, the mountains, and the wildlife that roam the wide open spaces that make our region so special. California is proving that the common sense clean air and water policies I’ve helped build with Senator Pavley and CLCV, can also help families and businesses save money on their commute and their energy and water bills, while driving new investment in infrastructure and innovation.”

CLCV’s mission is to protect and enhance the environment and the health of all California communities by electing environmental champions, advancing critical priorities, and holding policymakers accountable.

Notable achievements include enacting a bipartisan agreement to reduce the costs of purchasing more efficient cars and trucks that run on cleaner fuels like electricity and biofuels, legislation to tackle the drought by protecting groundwater supplies and investing in water recycling, groundwater cleanup, and stormwater capture.

Prior to serving the 27th Senate District, he helped businesses construct clean energy projects, taught civics, investigated juvenile crime, and co-founded a technology incubator with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

“Under Sen. Pavley’s leadership, our state has made historic progress towards a more sustainable future. But the job’s not done. So I am stepping up to secure this legacy for future generations,” concluded Stern.

Senator Fran Pavley Endorses

Dear Friends,

I entered public service to make my community, and California, a better place to live. During my tenure in the Legislature we have made history.

We passed landmark policies to protect our children’s health and build a more sustainable economy by reducing air pollution and protecting our water supply. We balanced our budget and increased investments in our schools, colleges and parks. We gave district attorneys, firefighters and law enforcement the tools they need to keep our communities safe. And we worked with businesses to create clean energy jobs in California.

But the job’s not done. When term limits require me to retire from the state legislature in 2016, the 27th District needs a Senator who will represent this region with character and competence.

That’s why I am supporting Henry Stern as our next State Senator.

I have known Henry and his family for over 20 years. With deep roots in this district and one of the sharpest policy minds in California, Henry conducts his work with a kindness and decency that is all too rare in politics today.

As a Senator, I know Henry will work tirelessly every day to grow our economy, help our kids thrive in school, keep our neighborhoods safe, relieve gridlock on our roads, strengthen the resilience of our water system to drought and earthquakes, and carry on my legacy of clean energy leadership.

Why? Because I’ve watched him do it already. Henry has earned the respect of everyone he has worked with on the local, state and federal level…because competence and character count.

Your friend,

Senator Fran Pavley
