On the heels of endorsements from President Barack Obama, Governor Jerry Brown and trusted newspapers in Los Angeles and Ventura County, Henry Stern’s campaign continues to gain steam down the homestretch.
His Get Out the Vote efforts have been aided by a prominent bi-partisan coalition of leaders, from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and former Mayor Richard Riordan, to Congressmember Brad Sherman, and former Congressmembers Henry Waxman, Tony Beilenson and Howard Berman. Ventura County influencers like Superintendent Linda Parks, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin and Congressmember Julia Brownley have also come out to rally the troops for Stern, as have public watchdogs like California Attorney General Kamala Harris, State Treasurer John Chiang and Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin.
These leaders shared their reasons for endorsing Stern:
Attorney General Kamala Harris:
“Henry has demonstrated that he has the guts to stand up for working families and the smarts to not be fooled by special-interest lobbyists. In the Senate, he will help my office carry on its mission of fighting crime, holding polluters accountable and protecting consumers against Wall Street abuses.”
Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom:
“Henry Stern has the courage to stand up to the special interests to do what’s right for California — making neighborhoods safer and our environment healthier. That’s why I support him, and I imagine that’s why the Sierra Club and our public safety leaders do, too.”
State Treasurer John Chiang:
“Henry Stern has the integrity and experience to bring greater accountability and transparency — and smart investment in education and infrastructure — to state government. I’m proud to be joining firefighters and educators in supporting Henry Stern for Senate.”
Secretary of State Alex Padilla:
“Henry Stern understands the needs and concerns of the San Fernando Valley. He has a proven record of fighting to save quality local jobs, better schools and safe, healthy neighborhoods. We need him in the State Senate.”
State Controller Betty Yee:
“I am pleased to endorse Henry Stern for the California State Senate. His experience and deep knowledge of the issues facing California make him the best suited to represent the 27th Senate District. Henry Stern represents a new generation of leadership dedicated to ensuring California is the best place to live, work, and thrive. Please join me in supporting Henry Stern for the State Senate.”
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti:
“We need leaders like Henry Stern in the State Senate. Henry has proven that he can cut through partisan gridlock to improve our schools, protect our air and water quality, save and attract quality local jobs and help make our neighborhoods safer.”
Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan:
“Independent leaders like Henry Stern will work with BOTH parties to get things done. Henry has experience creating quality jobs and writing tough laws preventing domestic violence and keeping neighborhoods safe. I’m proud to join local law enforcement and small business leaders in supporting Henry Stern for State Senate.”
Stern has also been endorsed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer and City Council and School Board members from every area of the district.
