Crucial Momentum Boost in SD 27 with President’s Down-Ballot Nod
WASHINGTON — Today Barack Obama endorsed Henry Stern in his race for California State Senate District 27. Henry Stern is among a select group of state legislative candidates from around the country to be endorsed by Obama. The 27th Senate District includes eastern Ventura County, Malibu, portions of Santa Clarita and much of the San Fernando Valley, including Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Northridge, Porter Ranch, Reseda, Tarzana, Topanga, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.
This district has caught national attention as it is the epicenter of the gas wellhead blowout in the quiet suburb of Porter Ranch. The Obama Administration recently announced a framework for new national safety standards for gas storage to prevent another such incident.
Henry has been the lead environmental attorney for outgoing Senator Fran Pavley as they imposed stringent new oversight and accountability measures, as well as a statutory moratorium on the Southern California Gas Company’s use of the field.
“We are thrilled that Barack Obama is endorsing our candidates in some of the most competitive races across the country,” said Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “His endorsement highlights how crucial state legislative elections are to building on the progress the President has achieved and to continuing to move our nation forward.”
